چکیده

We present the first detection of interstellar acetone [(CH3)2CO] toward the high mass star forming region Orion-KL and the first detection of vibrationally excited (CH3)2CO in the ISM. Using the BIMA Array, 28 emission features that can be assigned to 54 acetone transitions were detected. Furthermore, 37 of these transitions have not been previously observed in the ISM. The observations also show that the acetone emission is concentrated toward the hot core region of Orion-KL, contrary to the distribution of other large oxygen bearing molecules. From our rotational-temperature diagram we find a beam averaged (CH3)2CO column density of (2.0(0.3)− 8.0(1.2))× 10 cm and a rotational temperature of 176(48)-194(66) K. Subject headings: ISM:individual(Orion-KL)—ISM:molecules—radio lines:ISM The first detection of interstellar acetone [(CH3)2CO] was reported by Combes et al. (1987) and later confirmed by Snyder et al. (2002) towards the hot molecular core source Sgr B2(N-LMH). Previous to this paper, acetone had yet to be reported in any other high mass or low mass star forming region despite being structurally similar to dimethyl ether ((CH3)2O). Conversely, (CH3)2O has been detected in both low mass star forming regions including IRAS 16293-2422 (Cazaux et al. 2003) and high mass star forming regions including Sgr (Winnewisser & Gardner 1976) and Orion (Snyder et al. 1974). It seemed therefore likely that acetone may be prevalent in other star forming regions such as Orion-KL. Department of Astronomy, 1002 W. High Resolution Λ=1mm Carma Observations of Large Molecules in Orion-kl

We present high resolution, Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy (CARMA), λ=1mm observations of several molecular species toward Orion-KL. These are the highest spatial and spectral resolution 1mm observations of these molecules to date. Our observations show that ethyl cyanide [C2H5CN] and vinyl cyanide [C2H3CN] originate from multiple cores near the Orion hot core and IRc7...

Trans-ethyl methyl ether in space A new look at a complex molecule in selected hot core regions

An extensive search for the complex molecule trans-ethyl methyl ether towards several hot core regions has been performed. Using the IRAM 30m telescope and the SEST 15m we looked at several frequencies where trans-ethyl methyl ether has strong transitions, as well as lines which are particularly sensitive to the physical conditions in which the molecule can be found. We included G34.26, NGC6334...

SEARCH FOR Λ-DOUBLING TRANSITIONS OF SiH IN ORION KL

A recent submillimeter line survey of Orion KL claimed detection of SiH. This paper reports on GBT observations of the 5.7 GHz Λ-doubling transitions of SiH in Orion. Many recombination lines, including C164δ, are seen, but SiH is not detected. The nondetection corresponds to an upper limit of 1.5×1015 cm−2 (4σ) for the beam-averaged column density of SiH. This suggests that the fractional abun...

A Survey of Large Molecules of Biological Interest toward Selected High-mass Star-forming Regions

We have surveyed the high-mass Galactic star-forming regions G19.61 0.23, G45.47+0.05, and W75N for interstellar methanol (CH3OH), formic acid (HCOOH), acetic acid (CH3COOH), methyl formate (HCOOCH3), methyl cyanide (CH3CN), and ethyl cyanide (CH3CH2CN) with the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association Array. From our observations, we have detected two new sources of interstellar HCOOH toward the...

The detection of the ( J , K ) = ( 18 , 18 ) line of NH 3 ⋆

A study of the metastable (J, K)=(18,18) line of ammonia (NH3) is presented aiming at better defining the physical properties of molecular gas in extreme environments. The spectra were collected with the Effelsberg 100-m telescope and are analyzed in combination with other data using a rotation diagram (Boltzmann plot). The first astronomical detection of the metastable (J, K) = (18,18) line of...
